These are A1 non-combustible fibre reinforced cement boards, 1200 x 800mm, in 6mm, 9mm and 12mm, sold by the pallet: 25, 50, 75, 100 or 150 boards with delivery to mainland UK included in the price. They replace plywood and plasterboard as a structural sheathing board on floors, walls and ceilings, inside or out, wet or dry, and they will not burn, rot or swell. Trade and stockist accounts get trade pricing on every pallet size.

Is cement board fireproof?

Fibre cement board is non-combustible. These boards carry the A1 classification, the highest reaction to fire class there is, and comply with BS 476-4 Grade A. That means the board itself does not contribute to a fire, which is why it is specified where plasterboard or plywood would not pass: fire-rated linings, boiler rooms, plant areas, external sheathing and anywhere the building control officer wants a non-combustible board. The rating belongs to the board; the fire performance of a finished wall or floor depends on the whole build up, so check the detail for the job.

Which thickness

All three are the same board at different weights, and 6mm is the lightest to handle. Which one a job needs depends on what the board is doing, the substrate and the span, so if the detail does not say, send it to the technical team before you order the pallet and we will tell you.

Buying fibre cement board by the pallet

The smallest order is 25 boards, which is 24 square metres, and the price shown includes palletised delivery to mainland UK. The boards score and snap like plasterboard or cut with a hand or power saw, with dust extraction on power tools, and fix with screws, adhesive, a drylining system or taped joints depending on the substrate and finish. Trade accounts get trade pricing on all five pallet sizes and the 10% first order discount applies to this product like any other.

Fibre cement board questions we get asked

Can I buy a single sheet?

Not from us online: the boards go out on pallets of 25 and up, with delivery included. For one or two sheets, a local builders’ merchant is the better buy. For a job that needs 24 square metres or more, the pallet works out well because the delivery is in the price.

Can fibre cement board be used outside?

Yes. The board is made for internal and external use and is resistant to water and mould, so it is used as external sheathing and in wet areas as well as on dry internal walls and floors.

Can I tile onto it?

It is a cement based board, so tiling onto it is a normal use, but the right adhesive and build up depend on where it is going and what is under it. Ask the technical team with the detail and we will tell you what works.

Is this the same as a tile backer board?

No. Our tile backer boards are insulation boards, a foam core with a cement coating, made to put under underfloor heating and tiles. These fibre cement boards are solid structural boards for sheathing, fire-rated linings and floors. Different job, different board.

    • Install a 6–12mm base layer

    • Overlay with a staggered 12mm top layer to reinforce joints and improve performance

5. Installation Guidelines

Cutting

  • Score and snap (similar to plasterboard), or

  • Cut using hand or power saw

  • Use dust extraction when cutting with power tools

Fixing Methods

Installation method depends on substrate, location, and final finish. Boards can be fixed using:

  • Mechanical screws

  • Adhesives

  • Drylining systems

  • Joint taping systems

Boards may be directly fixed to solid substrates.

For project-specific installation guidance, consult the technical team.
